Why these prices
We run Miru on Cloudflare R2. We have never operated a service like this one, so we genuinely do not know yet how storage and bandwidth will behave once there are real libraries here and people are sharing them. R2 charges nothing for bandwidth, however much of it there is — so an album of yours that suddenly gets a lot of attention cannot produce a bill we did not see coming.
It costs us roughly twice per gigabyte what the cheaper options would. We would rather pay that than guess, and these prices are set so we stay solvent at the far end of the guess rather than the near one.
So this is not the cheapest place to keep photographs, and we are not going to pretend otherwise. Apple, Google and Ente all sell storage for less per gigabyte than we do. If the most gigabytes for the least money is what you want, buy from them — or run Miru yourself, which costs you a disk.
What this is for
Miru is free software, and the point of it is that you can run it on your own machine, with your own S3-compatible storage, and owe nobody anything.
This hosted version exists for people who want that without running a server, and for people who want to try it properly before deciding. It is not here to make anyone rich. It is here so that "host it yourself" is not the only answer.
If you outgrow us
We stop at 500 GB. Past that, reselling rented storage stops adding up, and self-hosting is honestly the better answer — bring your own bucket. You can export everything you have uploaded, originals included, whenever you like, and you need neither our permission nor our continued existence to do it.
